Magnet Mania!

Choices Brochures for the 2009-2010 Magnet School Programs have been mailed to your homes last month.  Applications are due to the Magnet Office no later than December 18, 2009.  Students who will continue to attend Community Magnet do not need to reapply. All fifth grade students must apply for middle school.  Community students do not automatically “get in” to middle schools. Research the various middle school options, before you apply.  We strongly encourage you and your child to visit the schools that  interest you.

Here are some magnet application basics:

• You do not need to reapply to Community if you plan on returning next year.
• If your child is in grades K – 4 and you apply and are accepted to another magnet school, your child will be automatically dropped from our school and will not be re-enrolled at Community Magnet Charter School.
• All fifth grade students need to submit a Magnet application for middle school. Community students do not “automatically” get in to middle school. Please email Carla, csc6721@lausd.net, if you have questions about points and/or program options.
• The preprinted 2009 – 20010 applications were mailed to the homes of all students currently enrolled in an LAUSD school for grades K-11^th last month. There is a website about LAUSD Programs found at www.echoices.lausd.net .
• Applicants must be on a valid magnet waiting list, and not concurrently enrolled in a magnet program to receive    waiting list points for any given year.  Applicants currently enrolled in a magnet program are not eligible to receive waiting list points when applying for a new magnet program.
• There is no credit given to submitting an application or reapplying for a program for which the applicant is ineligible.
• The Choices application provides applicants with only one program request; Magnet, Permits With Transportation (PWT), or Public School Choice (PSC). Be sure to bubble in only the Magnet option if you plan to attend a Magnet school.
• Please inform Kindergarten applicants that they must use a blank application.  Do not use an application that has been pre-coded for another student.
• The application deadline is December 18, 2009.
